So many look to Facebook and other social media sites as a lead generator and then are quickly disappointed when nothing happens. “If you build it they will come” does not work in social media or even with a website. Social media is all about relationships, building them, cultivating them and being there when they need you. Social media does take time and effort if you are not going to use it on a regular basis do not even think about using it. An inactive page is the best way to turn interested people away. So here goes with some ideas for getting noticed.

1. As I mentioned earlier create a page only of you plan on using it or hiring a social media manager to assist.

2. You should like your Facebook page to your personal page in order to invite friends to join BUT be very cautious in who you invite or even if you invite friends and family. You don’t necessarily want to have all your friends and family posting on your business page how great last weekend was at the bar. Also you don’t want your friends and family to feel obligated. What would better is to post on your personal page that you have a new business page, with a link of course, and ask them to share it with anyone they know that might be interested in what you do.

3. Now it’s time to post. Guess what most of your posts should not be about your business. Who wants to see the same commercial over and over again. You need to mix it up, post about events in your area, articles of interest that could relate to your business, ask for advice -”where’s a good place to find a Reuben sandwich” etc.. Every now and then throw in something about your business. Be sure and toot your own horn-but don’t go nuts. If you’ve just landed a great client, sold your first house, created the most beautiful cake, share it…if possible be sure and share a photo, photo’s grab people better than a lot of text. Again a social media manager can do this for you.

4. You want people to share your content so you need great things to post. Most frequent shares are photos and videos. Relevant to your business great, but it doesn’t have to be. Just make sure you are not alienating anyone with what you are posting.

5. You might have noticed that posting around 11 AM is best. Anytime between 8 AM and 4 PM is good. Keep track of what is popular and especially when.
